Women's Fitness: the Best Choices Start with You

Start with What We Know

Choose to Move

We are in the midst of a national health crisis and a personal health opportunity. We know what is causing us to become the fattest people on earth with high rates of chronic lifestyle-related health problems. We know that 70 percent of premature death is lifestyle-related.

The answer to our personal health problems is right under our noses and the good news is this:

It's not too complicated or expensive to have a nearly miraculous effect in our experience of health and well-being!

Walking is the fountain of youth--and the fountain of joy in health!

Dr. Michael F. Roizen (2006,The Real Age Workout) says this about walking and its effect on his patients:

Can You Keep a Secret?
No? That's great! Because I want you to share with everyone the biggest health secret I've learned from my patients--walking is the fountain of youth. It's the single best thing you can do for your health....

...scientific studies have revealed that walking alone gets you 40 percent of the total health benefit of all exercise. Yes--simple walking has that great an effect on your body....

People who succeeded in feeling more energetic sent me their secret; those that succeeded in losing weight sent me their secret; those that succeeded in quitting smoking also sent me their secret; and those that succeeded in lowering their blood pressure or getting their arthritis under control sent me their secret, too.

And the secret for all was the same--30 minutes of walking every day.(p. 29)

Add Resistance Training

Resistance exercises, or strength training done with weights, build and strengthen your muscles and bones. Strength training will improve your balance which is the best way of preventing the falls that older women are prone to and that cause injuries, especially broken bones.

Doing strength-building or resistance exercises for 10 minutes a day, at least 3 times a week, is also one of the best ways to give yourself an energy boost.

In his book, Eight Minutes in the Morning, Jorge Cruise informs us that:

Strength training is the smart way to lose weight because it's also good for your overall health. New research shows that strength training:
  • Increases bone density, helping to prevent osteoporosis.
  • Improves balance, preventing falls and injuries.
  • Lowers your blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and risk of stroke, diabetes, cancer, and arthritis.
  • Boosts your metabolism to burn fat 24 hours a day.
  • Raises energy levels for a more active lifestyle.
  • Promotes a better mood and better sleep patterns with the release of endorphins.
  • Brings an end to yo-yo weight loss and gain.
It's no secret that regular exercise will improve your life. You will feel better and look better and live a longer, healthier life. Why, then, is it so difficult to make exercise a daily practice?

To change your habits of daily life requires this:

  • You understand the connection between your mind and body.
  • You change your mind to change your body.
  • You apply The Law of Attraction to your process of creating joy in health.
