Mind Body Connection: the Key to Achieving Wellness Goals

Change Your Mind to Change Your Body

Your Mind and Body are Connected

The Mind-Body Connection: On your journey to health and wellness, your mind is a powerful ally--or a powerful saboteur. Strong friend or corrosive enemy.

Choose to use your mind to create health.

Two simple choices made all the difference in my life when ill-health sapped the life right out of my body:

  1. I chose to take an active role in my thoughts and feelings. I talked myself away from the negative thoughts and the negative feelings that sabotaged my days, drained my energy and held me back from achieving my dreams and goals.
  2. I chose to incorporate practices in my life that integrated mind and body like walking meditation and yoga, especially when stress was high and negativity had the upper hand.

Make a regular practice of enlisting your mind and body together in creation of a healthy, vibrant life. Don't let an unruly "monkey" mind rule. And, remember, it is the presence of positive emotions associate with your goals that is the powerful chemistry of life-enhancing change.

The Law of Attraction

We know this: like attracts like. Negative thoughts lead to negative emotions; negative thoughts and emotions lead to unsatisfactory and negative conversations and experiences...and so on.

When you become active on your own behalf, to enlist the power of your mind in the service of your healthy body, you will:

  • Make the effort to set clear goals and "charge them up" by imagining them as already accomplished and the positive emotions that accompany them.
  • You will write down what you want by jotting down a quick list (3-5 items)--This is What I Desire Regarding My Body. Then, for every item on your list, write another short list (3-5 sentences) that complete this thought: "I want (insert your first desire regarding your body here) because...."
  • As you write, and as you re-read these statements every day, imagine the positive feelings associated with wanting what you want for your body's health--and with getting what you want.
  • Take care to notice and to interrupt negative thoughts and emotions and talk yourself back to a better feeling place.
